Sep 12, 2018 (newstodate): Brussels is in the heart of Europe's pharma clusters and a key cargo destination for airlines, including Finnair.
The carrier is now again to boost its cargo capacity on the route between Brussels and Helsinki by re-introducing flights twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays with Airbus A330 aircraft, replacing its current services using Airbus A319/Embraer 190 aircraft.
Starting from October 31, 2018, the two Airbus A330 flights from Brussels will thus continue directly via Helsinki to destinations on the carrier's Asian route network.
Already now, Finnair Cargo is operating three weekly freighter flights between Helsinki and Brussels, operated by DHL.
In April 2013, Finnair Cargo opened its second European cargo hub at Brussels Zaventem Airport, and from June 6, 2013, Finnair introduced an Airbus A340-300 aircraft on Thursday morning flights between Helsinki and Brussels, in addition to its MD-11F rotations between Brussels and Helsinki on Saturdays and Sundays, replacing the MD-11F with Airbus A300-600F from European Air Transport from May 2014.
From the turn of the year 2014/15, Finnair ceased own freighter traffic and contracted instead DHL to provide the uplift from Brussels into its hub at Helsinki Airport.
