Sep 03, 2018 (newstodate): Maybe somewhat prematurely, the Chilean carrier LATAM Cargo is claimed to have opened its 10th global hub and second offline station at Copenhagen Airport, Denmark, to meet a strong demand for transporting pharmaceuticals to the South American markets.
According to CAAS, LATAM Cargo will truck Danish pharma shipments already from September 1, 2018, from Copenhagen Airport to its currently three European hubs at Amsterdam, Brussels, and Frankfurt serving the pharma industries in the three Scandinavian markets.
The launch of service would, however, presuppose the availability of a CEIV Pharma certified cargo handling provider at Copenhagen Airport to keep the entire cool-chain intact.
So far, SAS' Spirit Air Cargo is today the only CEIV certified provider at the airport.
LATAM Cargo is however served by WFS at Copenhagen Airport as for general cargo, so for the carrier to launch WFS as an off-line station at Copenhagen Airport would require the CEIV certification of the facilities.
As earlier reported by newstodate, WFS Denmark's CEIV certification is in progress, but has not yet reached the stage for IATA to start an auditing process that may at best not be completed before well into 2019.
