Sep 11, 2018 (newstodate): Finnair lifted a total of 14,148 tonnes of cargo on scheduled passenger and freighter flights in August 2018.
This was a drop by 2.9 percent, y-o-y, due to the shortfall of volumes on purchased traffic that was down by 47.1 percent to 908 tonnes after the end of the agreement with JAL from October 2017, and the freighter traffic that now consists only of three weekly freighter flights between Helsinki and Brussels, operated by DHL.
In august volumes on the Asian routes were up 4.8 percent to 10,218 tonnes reflecting the positive cargo market development in Japan and Hong Kong and the capacity growth on route to Thailand.
The North Atlantic traffic was also up by 28 percent to 1,143 tonnes while volumes on the European routes continued to decrease by 15.6 percent, to 1,838 tonnes.
During the first eight months of the year, Finnair Cargo has handled 99,206 tonnes of cargo, which is 1.7 percent below last year.
