Aug 17, 2018 (newstodate): Lithuania's smallest of three international airport managed by Lithuanian Airport Plc, Palanga Airport is balancing on a thin edge.
In 2019 Palanga Airport on the country's Baltic coast is scheduled for a major runway refurbishment at a cost of 12 mio euro, but the airport has found it hard to keep its airline customers, and passenger volumes are stagnating.
In Q1, 2017, Palanga Airport thus handled 54,000 passengers, and in Q1, 2018, the passenger throughput was still only 54,027.
Expectations are that the airport will be handling only about 400,000 passenger in 2030, while the country's capital airport at Vilnius is now close to five mio passengers, and Kaunas Airport is close to handling of 1.2 mio passenger.
After a reshuffle of top management in all three international airports in Lithuania, Andrius Daujotas is new Palanga Airport Manager from July 2018.
