Aug 22, 2018 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier is seeing strong demand in the market for its seasonally-operated route between Riga and Abu Dhabi.
The route was opened with the first flight on October 29, 2017, served by airBaltic using the CS300 aircraft on four weekly rotations between the two destinations under a code-share agreement with Etihad Airways during the winter schedule.
Demand has however proved the need for a longer period of service, and airBaltic is thus to operate the the route again from October 28, 2018, till April 29, 2019, still with four weekly rotations.
A similar code-share cooperation between the two carriers was launched on December 16, 2013, as airBaltic started flights four times weekly on the route between Riga and Abu Dhabi using a leased Airbus A319 aircraft.
This operation proved unprofitable for airBaltic, and only the introduction of new longer-haul capacity in the form of the Bombardier CS300, now Airbus A220-300, made a resumption of services feasible.
