Aug 10, 2018 (newstodate): Among the wild guesses concerning which new cargo carrier would open up services at Oslo Airport yesterday, Saudia Cargo was one qualified bid.
That was, however, not to be: instead, Ethiopian Airlines Cargo announced the start of services from Oslo Airport to Guangzhou, as reported yesterday.
Bidding on Saudia Cargo was not entirely unfounded, however.
Already at the Nordic Air Cargo Symposium in Stockholm on April 17, 2018, Rainer Muller, Saudia Cargo Regional Director Europe, broke news of the carrier's plans and later participated at a two-day seminar, arranged by Avinor, with stakeholders in Norway's seafood industry to seek industrial commitment to the new service.
-The Norwegian forwarders and other stakeholders reacted very positively. There is a lot of interest and support for the planned operation, and a decision shall be taken latest by mid of May, Rainer Muller, Saudia Cargo Regional Director Europe, later said in a mail to newstodate.
But since then, nothing has happened.
A fresh inquiry by newstodate on August 9, 2018, has shed no further light on the prospects for the Saudia freighter at Oslo.
-Right now there is no further update. So far no final decision taken, the answer reads.
The route under consideration would be served by Saudia Cargo operating a freighter aircraft from Jeddah via a point in Central Europe to Oslo for onward flight New York JFK to lift Norwegian seafood exports to the NAM market.
