Aug 22, 2018 (newstodate): With deliveries of a new fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 9, Primera Air will open new routes and bases for long-haul traffic.
Latest new addition to the carrier's expansive strategy is the opening of flights form Brussels to destinations in the USA from summer 2019.
Already now open for bookings are flights from Brussels to Boston from June 4, 2019, with four weekly rotations, flights to New York Newark from June 9, 2019, with a daily rotation, and flights to Washington Dulles from June 2, 2019, with three weekly rotations.
Primera Air is sure to be heading for strong competition on at least two of these new routes, with Delta Airlines already operating flights from Brussels to New York JFK and United Airlines also from Brussels to New York Newark.
On the route to Boston, Primera Air will so far be alone in offering direct services, but on the route to Washington Primera Air will compete with Brussels Airlines and United Airlines.
In May 2017, Primera Air signed a significant contract with Boeing for delivery of eight new Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft, adding a follow-up order for another two aircraft in December 2017.
Deliveries of the aircraft fitted with extra fuel tanks to sustain long-haul flights with high passenger loads will start from early 2019.
The aircraft will provide the backbone for Primera Air on traffic between Europe and North America, and the carrier will become the first airline to operate this new aircraft type.
Primera Air is part of Primera Travel Group with travel agencies and tour operating companies in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
