Aug 02, 2018 (newstodate): Russia's new green-field airport Rostov-on-Don Platov Airport, fully operational only from December 7, 2017, is seeing a promising development in the air cargo business.
During the first six months of 2018, the airport has handled 2,389 tonnes of cargo, which is up 18 percent compared to the volumes handled at its predecessor and now de-commissioned Rostov-on-Don Airport.
Driving the growth at the new airport is international cargo, up 77 percent to 710 tonnes, flowing through the airport from Istanbul, Dubai and Yerevan and transferred primarily to Russian destinations including Moscow, St Petersburg and Yekaterinburg.
Platov Airport received Rosaviatsiya's approval for the official opening on November 27, 2017, and features an ICAO category II, 3600m x 45m runway, an apron accommodating 45 aircraft, and an apron dedicated to cargo operations.
The airport's cargo infrastructure has the capacity of handling up to 374 tonnes at a time and covering all types of air cargo, including temperature-sensitive shipments, dangerous goods, VAL and live animals.
