Aug 30, 2018 (newstodate): The Lithuanian government has presented its strategic guidelines for the development of the country's international airports.
To secure the continued development, an interim investment program running till 2028 has been set up aiming at the development of a united and integrated transport infrastructure in Lithuania, coordinated with the construction of the European railway line Rail Baltica.
The approval of the final, detailed development of the infrastructure of Lithuanian airports at Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga is expected to be passed by the parliament later this autumn.
The reconstruction of Vilnius Airport's passenger terminal will be completed, and the reconstruction of the arrival terminal will also be completed by 2028.
A new passenger terminal is planned for Kaunas Airport, integrated with the Rail Baltica railway line.
Kaunas Airport is to further develop its existing aircraft MRO businesses, as well as boosting the airfreight activities.
The infrastructure of Palanga Airport will be modernized, and the runway will be refurbished.
Financing of the ambitious plan estimated to cost around 700 mio euro will hinge on a solution to the long-awaited issue of finding a concessionaire to boost the Lithuanian airports' commercial activities.
