Aug 23, 2018 (newstodate): The new Albanian carrier under formation, Air Albania has now taken delivery of its first Airbus aircraft.
On July 31, 2018, an Airbus A319 aircraft was placed with Air Albania under a wet-lease contract with Turkish Airlines, and the carrier's first route will connect Yerevan with Istanbul.
The carrier plans to start out with flights from Tirana to Rome, Istanbul and London, later adding also flights to Brussels, Athens, Milan, Munich and Barcelona.
On the even more ambitious side, Air Albania is also venting hopes for start of services from Albania to New York before the end of 2018.
The European network will be operated with a fleet of Airbus A320 Family aircraft, while the long-haul visions rest on the introduction of Airbus A330 aircraft.
Supporting the launch of the new Albanian carrier is Turkish capital, and Air Albania will work closely with Turkish Airlines.
The launch of the new carrier is widely seen as a result of direct personal interventions by the Turkish president and Albania's prime minster meeting on several occasions with the airline project on the agenda.
