Aug 21, 2018 (newstodate): Long sought-after, Finnair is now to launch flights to a new destination on the US west coast - Los Angeles.
Starting from March 31, 2019, Finnair will thus be offering three weekly rotations on the route between Helsinki and Los Angeles as the first route to be launched solely with Airbus A350 aircraft.
The new route will be operated within the Atlantic joint business between Finnair, American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia.
Finnair is also making some additions to its summer program for the San Francisco and Chicago route.
Services on both routes will start from April 2019, and a fourth frequency will be added for San Francisco as of May.
With these changes, Finnair will be offering a daily flight to California during the summer season with the new three-weekly flight to Los Angeles and the new fourth weekly service to San Francisco.
Los Angeles will be Finnair's fifth US destination, along with New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Miami.
The opening of the route to Los Angeles marks Finnair's return to the destination that was last served between May 1981 and October 1991 with DC-10 aircraft operating from Helsinki via Seattle to Los Angeles.
In a Scandinavian context, SAS has been offering daily flights from Stockholm to Los Angeles since March 14, 2016, after having earlier served Los Angeles with flights from Copenhagen, Denmark, until 1994.
