Aug 22, 2018 (newstodate): Cargo volumes are rising fast in 2018 at the Faroe Islands' Vagar Airport.
During January-July 2018, a total of 930 tones of cargo has been handled at the airport which is an increase by no less than 215 percent compared to last year.
In comparison, the airport's total volumes in 2017 were only 660 tonnes, so the airport is clearly heading for an all-time high in 2018.
Mail volumes are however down by 0.5 percent, y-o-y, to only 146 tonnes.
Introducing competition in the market, SAS started operating the route between Vagar and Copenhagen from March 26, 2017, with a total of 12 weekly flights with Airbus A320 aircraft, in competition to Atlantic Airways that had so far been alone on the route with a daily rotation.
