Aug 15, 2018 (newstodate): The Estonian carrier Nordica is now ready to open its 2nd base outside the country.
As earlier reported, the carrier has won the PSO tender to serve two domestic routes in Sweden that were left void after the previous operator NextJet collapsed on May 17, 2018.
Nordica will thus now set up a new operational base at Gallivare with one Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft and crews to operate flights to Stockholm from Gallivare and Arvidsjaur starting from September 15, 2018.
From March 2018, Nordica opened its first non-Estonian base at Groningen Airport Eelde to provide year-round Bombardier CRJ700 flights on five routes to Copenhagen, Munich, Nice, and to Ibiza during the summer season.
While maintaining a focus on providing connectivity to European destinations at Tallinn Airport, Nordica sees the need for opening bases outside Estonia to enhance the cost-efficiency and rate of utilization beyond what can be supported by its small home market.
Starting out with six aircraft, Nordica's fleet now comprises six ATR 72-600, two Bombardier CRJ700 and 10 Bombardier CRJ900 in addition to the capacity of one bmi aircraft.
