Aug 15, 2018 (newstodate): China is eagerly expanding its scope of air services in support of its aggressive Belt & Road strategy stretching the country's grip over the regions between China and Europe.
According to CAAC, China has recently signed bilateral intergovernmental air transport agreements with 125 countries and regions, 62 of which lie along the Belt and Road venue.
China has also signed the first regional air transport agreement with the ASEAN organization, and held bilateral aviation conferences with a spree of countries including Russia, Armenia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Israel, Mongolia, Malaysia and Egypt and other countries straddling the route, securing rights for commercial aircraft to enter and land in each other country's airspace.
CAAC has also signed documents with the Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, New Zealand and Australia to secure civil aviation cooperation.
Today, China has direct air connections with 45 countries alongside the Belt and Road, operating some 5,100 flights per week, CAAC says.
