Aug 01, 2018 (newstodate): Armenia's latest attempt on a viable national carrier, Armenia Airways has now obtained its AOC and is soon to start services.
The initial plans were to launch flights already from June 1, 2018, but the AOC process ran into delays forcing a revision of plans.
The coming network will comprise flights from Yerevan to 10 destinations including eight in Russia in addition to Amsterdam and Paris.
The flights will be operated with two ex-Tarom Airbus A320 aircraft now placed on the carrier's own AOC.
The privately-owned company has been set up by Tamaz Gaiashvili, former Georgian Airways President now holding 24 percent of the shares, together with Ashot Torosyan, 51 percent of the shares, and Robert Oganesyan with 25 percent.
No less than 12 airlines have made their calls at land-locked Armenia's Yerevan Zvartnots Airport in 2017-18, including Armenia Aircompany, Brussels Airlines, Qatar Airways, Wataniya Airways, Germania, Arkia Israeli Airlines, Cham Wings, Air Cairo, Turkmenistan Airlines, Red Wings, Nordwind Airlines and Pobeda.
As of now, a total of 23 airlines are operating flights into Yerevan Zvartnots Airport that has one 3,280m ILS Cat II runway.
