Jul 05, 2018 (newstodate): The issue of Greenland's airport infrastructure is seemingly poised to replace the annual sightings of the Loch Ness Monster.
So far, plans are still that the runway at the capital airport at Nuuk will be extended from today's 950m to 1,800m, Ilulissat Airport will also have its runway extended to 1,800m from today's 845m, and a new airport will be constructed at Qaqortoq with a 1,200m runway.
Changes in the country's political scene after the latest election have however again cast doubts over the projects as one political party requires a re-evaluation of the length of the runway at Nuuk Airport.
The result is that the process otherwise to be advanced in June for finding external investors to the projects has been put on hold due to lack of clarity of what is actually to be financed.
Also some of the construction companies shortlisted for bidding on the eventual construction works have retired from the projects.
