Jul 02, 2018 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga International Airport has become one of the first airports in Europe to launch the introduction of a new modern aircraft control system, "follow the greens".
As an innovative control system for aircraft taxiing on the ground, "Follow the greens" provides individual guidelines for the flight crew for taxiing the aircraft on the aerodrome by automatically lighting the taxiway center-line lights in front of the aircraft showing a specific route for the aircraft to the aircraft stand or the runway.
In low visibility as in case of fog, intense snow or rain, it enables aircraft to taxi to the aircraft stands in a faster and safer way, thus clearing the runway.
Apron taxiway center line lights for the airport will be supplied by and their integration into the existing aerodrome light control system will be monitored by the company ADB Safegate Finland Oy which was selected in a tender procedure.
