Jun 08, 2018 (newstodate): A tender has been opened by the United States Transportation Command for air transport services between US bases in Greenland and Denmark.
The flights comprise operations between Thule Air Base and Copenhagen to lift 150 passengers and 25 tonnes of shipments once a month, uplift of at least 30 passengers and 100 kg of cargo between Thule Air Base and Kangerlussuaq with up to four rotations per month, as well as receiving, storing, and processing cargo at temporary cooling facilities.
In addition to these flights, the contractor shall provide scheduled services for passenger and cargo movements on an ad-hoc basis.
An estimated 700 passenger movements per year will be required between Copenhagen, Denmark and Kangerlussauq, Greenland, and an estimated eight tonnes of cargo per year will be required to be moved between Copenhagen, Denmark, and Kangerlussuaq, Greenland
Air Greenland has been operating the services through several tender periods over the last 15 years, but may meet competition in this year's tender that will end with the announcement of a winner on August 3, b2018.
The contract period will be October 1, 2018-September 31, 2019, with provision for up to four one-year extensions.
