Jun 27, 2018 (newstodate): While sales on the international market have still not met expectations, Russia's Sukhoi Civil Aircraft is again mulling plans for developing an all-cargo version of the Superjet 100 aircraft.
When the plans were first aired in 2008, the manufacturer envisaged a cargo version of the aircraft capable of lifting some 15 tonnes of cargo.
Now the idea is resurfacing in the company's latest annual report.
Sukhoi is also working on, or considering, other derivatives of the Superjet aircraft including a 75-seats version, a 76-88 seats version, as well as a longer-range version of the base model and a larger 110 seats version.
Efforts are also made to reduce, or even eliminate, the content of US-manufactured systems and components in the Superjet 100 aircraft which today is also blocking for Sukhoi's sales efforts due to international sanctions imposed on Russia.
The Superjet took off on its first flight on May 19, 2008, and so far 159 aircraft have been produced.
