Jun 25, 2018 (newstodate): The pressure from unexpectedly high rises in volumes of incoming e-trade shipments to Stockholm Arlanda Airport has eased.
Especially summer 2017 saw an enormous rise in volumes of mail shipments from China, placing huge stress on all parties involved, described by Swedavia as "a comparatively pleasant problem".
Had the development continued unabated, new handling infrastructure would have been urgently needed at the airport.
Now, the situation has stabilized - for a while, at least.
-The volumes have come down from 170,000 to 17,000 packages per day, so only 10 percent of the volumes from fall 2017, says Bas van Goch, Swedavia General Manager Cargo.
-Since March 1, 2018, all shipments are subject to VAT and there is now a handling fee of SEK 75, invoiced by PostNord in Sweden.
-However, a deal has been made with the Wish-website that VAT will be added on the price when purchasing. For that Wish can add a fee, but that fee is expected to be lower than the SEK 75 that Postnord is now charging.
-Therefore volumes are expected to go up again during the summer, but PostNord has taken actions to make sure to cope with the fluctuations, says Mr van Goch.
