Jun 07, 2018 (newstodate): Moscow Vnukovo Airport is finding a new owner: Qatar Airways.
On April 4, 2018, the airport and the airline signed an MoU under which Qatar Airways will acquire 25 percent of the shares in Russia's third largest airport.
The new investment is seen as an element in Qatar Airways' quest for international partnerships to balance the effects by the Gulf states' blockade.
Qatar Investment Authority is already, since 2016, holding 25 percent of the stakes in St Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport.
Serving the Russian market since August 1, 2004, Qatar Airways is operating flights from Doha to Moscow Domodedovo Airport, but expectations are that the carrier will more operations to Moscow Vnukovo Airport that is currently Moscow's smallest, but fastest-growing airport.
