Jun 20, 2018 (newstodate): Plans for construction of a new hangar at the Faroe Islands' Vagar Airport are progressing.
Atlantic Airways has signed a long-term lease agreement with ALC for one Airbus A320-200neo, slated for delivery by March 2019, and this drives the need for new hangar infrastructure at Vagar Airport.
The wingspan of the A320neo is 1.7m longer than the A320 aircraft now used by Atlantic Airways, but a new hangar would also provide more space for the carrier's current technical servicing of three Airbus aircraft including two A320-200 and one A319-100, and two helicopters.
-We are in discussions with Vagar Airport about the hangar project and its financing. No decision has yet been made, but both parties agree on the basic needs for the coming new facility, says Johanna a Berghi, Atlantic Airways CEO.
Given the climatic conditions in winters on the Faroe Islands, the decision will be made soon, and the facility should be commissioned by spring 2019, in time for the arrival of the new Airbus A320neo.
