Jun 11, 2018 (newstodate): SAS is now finally to take leave of its last remaining Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
The aircraft has been operated on a lease contract by the Norwegian carrier Wideroe but has now been put up for sale at the end of the lease period.
SAS has thus entrusted the aircraft re-marketing company Airstream International Group to offer the aircraft up for sale, competitively priced and available for immediate delivery.
In 2007 SAS grounded its entire fleet of 27 Bombardier Q400 aircraft following three incidents due to landing gear deficiencies.
The aircraft later siphoned into the fleets of carriers including Malev, Austrian Airlines, and Nord-Flyg that even undertook to convert the aircraft into cargo version, later selling the aircraft to West Air Luxembourg that later sold it to the Kenyan carrier Blue Bird Aviation, based at Nairobi, for flying cargo shipments into regional destinations including Somalia.
