Jun 27, 2018 (newstodate): The last remaining CIS country on the EU Air Safety Black List, Kyrgyzstan has high hopes to be lifted off in 2019.
A specialist delegation from ICAO has recently audited the country's aviation sector without leaving any remarks on deficiencies, rising hopes for an early exit from the list.
Kyrgyzstan has been listed as unsafe since 2007.
On March 1, 2018, the first airline in Kyrgyzstan completed its IOSA certification process, obtaining the certificate .
Taking the lead was Air Manas, based at Bishkek's Manas International Airport.
The Kyrgyz low-cost carrier operates one Boeing 737-600 and one Boeing 737-800 aircraft on routes to domestic destinations as well as to China, India, and Moscow.
The IOSA certification allows the carrier to conclude code-sharing and interline-agreements with other airlines, and the carrier will obtain better leasing conditions which will enable Air Manas to increase its aircraft fleet.
