Jun 22, 2018 (newstodate): Finnair is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the opening of the first direct non-stop flights between Helsinki and China in June 1988.
Finnair thus cut flight time on the route to some 7-8 hours, compared to the more than 20 hours earlier required due to several en-route stops along the way.
Finnair was the first carrier to launch direct non-stop flights between Northern Europe and China, and is now operating 38 weekly flights from Helsinki to six destinations in China - Beijing from June 2, 1988, Shanghai from September 2003, Chongqing from May 9, 2012, Xian from June 14, 2013, Nanjing from May 13, 2018, and Guangzhou from September 2, 2005, as well as to Hong Kong from May 19, 2007.
