Jun 21, 2018 (newstodate): The Faroe Islands' carrier Atlantic Airways has now been granted membership of IATA, the UN civil aviation organization.
The membership was officially conferred on June 14, 2018, when the carrier became IATA's 290th member airline.
As a precondition for obtaining, and maintaining, IATA membership, a carrier must also pass the IATA Operational Safety Audit, IOSA, which Atlantic Airways accomplished in November 2017.
Based at Vagar Airport, Atlantic Airways operates a fleet comprising two Airbus A319 and one Airbus A320 aircraft, as well as two AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters, while an Airbus A320neo will join the fleet in spring 2019.
