Jun 13, 2018 (newstodate): Ethiopian Airlines is still planning for introduction of larger aircraft capacity on its routes to Scandinavia.
With the first flight on March 27, 2017, Ethiopian Airlines is currently offering five weekly rotations between Addis Ababa and Oslo with Boeing 787-8 aircraft, providing the first direct air link from Oslo to Africa via Stockholm that has been served since October 28, 2003.
-We are preparing to replace the Boeing 787-8 aircraft with the larger Boeing 787-9 or B777-200 based on the booking figures, says Mussie Fitehamlak, Ethiopian Airlines Manager Norway.
-Complementing the passenger traffic uplift of cargo, especially Norwegian seafood also plays an important role in the profitability of the flights at Oslo Airport - only yields are, as for all other airlines in this market, a challenge.
-The seafood shipments carried by Ethiopian Airlines from Oslo Airport are transited at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport for onward transportation to destinations including notably Dubai, Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Abuja, says Mr Fitehamlak.
June 2017 saw the carrier commissioning its new 150,000 sq m cargo hub at Addis Ababa, featuring a perishable cargo terminal with cool chain storage and housing different climate chambers for storage and handling of temperature sensitive cargo such as fresh agricultural products, pharmaceuticals and life science products, as well as a dry cargo terminal.
At Oslo Gardermoen Airport, the carrier is handled by SAS Ground Handling and Spirit Air Cargo Handling, while cargo sales are provided by Kales Airline Services.
