Jun 19, 2018 (newstodate): Kalaallit Airports, set up by Greenland's government to construct, own and operate the airports in Nuuk, Ilulissat and Qaqortoq, has shortlisted six companies to participate in the coming tender for airport construction projects.
Among these shortlisted companies is one Chinese bidder - China Communications Construction Company.
This has raised fears for a hidden agenda by China to gain a foothold in Greenland that might comprise Greenland's and western geopolitical and security issues.
The Danish state has therefore now signed an agreement with Greenland's government to identify ways for the Danish government to provide financial support for the projects, thereby sidelining the potential Chinese bid that would also comprise tempting financial offers in addition to actual construction of the airports.
The newly-elected Greenlandic parliament will make its final decision on the airports infrastructure program at its autumn gathering.
