Jun 12, 2018 (newstodate): This summer will see the start of construction of a new Cargo City at Hungary's Budapest Airport.
An integral element in Budapest Airport's 2020 Development Program, the Cargo City will be commissioned in Q2, 2019, and will expand the airport's cargo handling capacity to 250,000 tonnes annually.
Located near Terminal 2, the Cargo City will handle the flights of cargo airlines such as Cargolux, Turkish Airlines Cargo and Qatar Airways Cargo, now operating three weekly A330-200F freighters, as well as belly cargo from passenger airlines.
The Latest newcomer to support the coming new Cargo City is the logistics company Kuehne + Nagel that is to join Budapest Airport's cargo community on July 1, 2018, moving into a leased warehouse and office space at Budapest Airport.
The airport is also housing integrators at two dedicated 16,000 sq m integrator facilities opened only in summer 2017.
DHL Express, for example, currently operates two large freighters on a daily basis an A300-600F links Budapest with the companys European hub in Leipzig, whilst a 737 transports goods to Hungary from Brussels as well as several smaller, feeder aircraft.
