Jun 08, 2018 (newstodate): Effective by July 1, 2018, Airbus will acquire the majority stake in the Bombardier C-Series Aircraft Limited Partnership.
With the new partnership, the production rate of the C Series aircraft is to be doubled, from 17 deliveries in 2017, to 34 in 2018.
This will require an intense effort by the manufacturer and the entire supply chain as only 10 new CS100/300 have been delivered so far into 2018, meaning that 24 new aircraft will have to be delivered to customers over only six months - more than delivered in total in 2017.
Actually, Bombardier has till today managed to deliver only 34 C Series aircraft including eight CS100 and 26 CS300 during the entire period since the first delivery on June 30, 2016, of a CS100 aircraft for Swiss.
As part of the efforts, the partners will set up a second C Series Final Assembly Line in Mobile, Alabama, dedicated to supplying U.S.-based customers among which Delta Air Lines reigns supreme as the program's single largest customer with orders for a total of 75 CS100 aircraft.
So far, the C Series aircraft have fetched a total of 402 orders, and aims at capturing a significant slice of the estimated 6,000 aircraft needed in this market segment over the next 20 years, according to Airbus and Bombardier.
