May 04, 2018 (newstodate): A fragile thaw in relations between the two states on the Korean peninsula may bring benefits also to the civil aviation.
According to a South Korean media, North Korea has submitted a request to ICAO for the opening of new international air routes, and the issue has reportedly already prompted South Korea's civil aviation authority to consider the potentials.
North Korea has also suggested the opening of its FIR to South Korean airlines which, if realized, would entail considerable savings on fuel by South Korean airlines' flights to e.g. North America and destinations in Russia.
