May 23, 2018 (newstodate): Ethiopian Airlines is looking forward to introducing the larger version of the Dreamliner, the Boeing 787-9 on the route from Addis Ababa to Stockholm, continuing to Oslo.
With the first flight on March 27, 2017, Ethiopian Airlines is currently offering five weekly rotations between Addis Ababa and Oslo, providing the first direct air link from Oslo to Africa via Stockholm that has been served since October 28, 2003.
The route is now operated with Boeing 787-8 aircraft that will, however, be replaced by larger Boeing 787-9 aircraft from this autumn.
In the meantime, Ethiopian Airlines is continuing its impressive expansion, taking delivery on June 5, 2018, of its 100th aircraft, a Boeing 787-900, scoring a 1st for an African airline to operate 100 aircraft fleet in the history of the continent.
In today's 99-aircraft strong fleet are already 19 Boeing 787-8 and two Boeing 787-9 aircraft, and five more Boeing 787-900 are so far on the order book.
In Norway, hopes are to see Ethiopian Airlines adding freighter flights in the future as well.
Today, the carrier operates two Boeing 757-200 converted freighters, as well as six Boeing 777F with orders for four more, and deliveries of two Boeing 737-800SF freighters are slated for June 2018 and January 2019, respectively.
