May 1, 2018 (newstodate): Kazakhstan's Air Astana is now taking steps towards setting up new cargo carrier by early 2019.
Air Astana is seeking a five-year business plan, with an income forecast from March 2019 to 2023.
The airline has thus issued draft tender documents for procurement of consulting services for a project to assess the possibility of establishing a cargo airline to transport cargo destined for Kazakhstan, as well as transit cargo between Asia and Europe, using both freighter capacity and belly cargo capacity on its passenger aircraft.
The new cargo airline will be launched with one wet-leased aircraft in the first two-three years of operations, later changing to dry lease operations with the potential to increase the fleet to three freighter aircraft.
Already in 21017, plans emerged for Air Astana to set up a new cargo carrier in cooperation with rail operator KTZ aiming at providing multi-modal rail/air services between Europe and Asia via Kazakhstan.
