May 09, 2018 (newstodate): One more Russian airport is joining the fight for attracting foreign carriers to use its facilities as a cargo hub.
Rosaviatsia, Russia's aviation regulator, has certified Abakan Airport in the country's Republic of Khakassia to handling of large freighter aircraft including the Boeing 747-400.
With a 3,250m runway, Abakan Airport will thus compete against other airports including notably Novosibirsk Tolmachevo and Krasnoyarsk Airport in offering en-route services for freighters between Asia and Europe.
Among the airlines to be targeted by the airport are Lufthansa Cargo and AirBridgeCargo.
