May 15, 2018 (newstodate): Plans for start of a new US-bound freighter service from Oslo Airport are still very much on the table.
The route under preparation will be served by Saudia Cargo routing a freighter aircraft from Jeddah via a point in Central Europe to Oslo for the continued flight New York JFK to lift Norwegian seafood exports to the NAM market.
On April 18, 2018, Rainer Muller, Saudia Cargo Regional Director Europe met with forwarders and providers in Oslo to seek the industry's commitment to the coming new service.
-The Norwegian forwarders and other stakeholders reacted very positively. There is a lot of interest and support for the planned operation, and a decision shall be taken latest by mid of May, said Rainer Muller, Saudia Cargo Regional Director Europe, in a mail to newstodate.
While the supposed deadline was obviously not met, the plans are still very much alive:
-Status is that we are still finalizing our Business Case, says Mr Muller in response to a call by newstodate last week.
Oslo Airport currently have some 20 weekly freighter departures lifting seafood to the Asian markets - but Saudia Cargo would be first to add freighter services to the US market that is important to the Norwegian seafood exporters.
While volumes of Norwegian seafood exports to the US market have remained virtually unchanged at 7,678 tonnes during the first 18 weeks of this year, the volume in week 18, 2018, was up 78 percent, compared to same week last year.
