May 03, 2018 (newstodate): Iceland is a testing ground for the world's new aircraft due to its special climatic and geographical conditions.
Keflavik Airport has thus been visited by the new Chinese-built aircraft COMAC ARJ21 as part of the certification process of the new aircraft.
The ARJ21 thus spent a period at Keflavik to undergo tests of its performance under heavy crosswinds.
The test was facilitated by the US AJW Group working closely with COMAC and Iceland's airports authority, ISAVIA, since September 2017 to manage the five-week testing program.
This involved a delegation of more than 100 engineers, meteorologists, pilots and support staff traveling to Iceland from China to carry out the tests.
AJW coordinated the logistics, flight plan approvals, test flight assessments and spares and maintenance support throughout the tests.
The Comac ARJ21 is a twin-engined regional jet, manufactured by the Chinese aerospace company Comac.
