May 23, 2018 (newstodate): Starting from May 22, 2018, the Polish carrier LOT is online at its third destination in Lithuania: Kaunas Airport, in central Lithuania.
The carrier is thus now offering six weekly rotations on the route from Warsaw Chopin Airport, served with Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
Already on the carrier's network are daily flights between Warsaw and Vilnius Airport as well as seasonal flights from Warsaw to Palanga with six weekly rotations.
LOT actually operated flights to Kaunas already last summer as all flights to Vilnius Airport were directed to Kaunas due to runway reconstruction works during the period July 14 to August 18, 2017.
-This is a significant event in the development of Kaunas Airport, says Marius Gelzinis, Lithuanian Airport Plc CEO since March 2018.
-The introduction of commercial flights by LOT allows Kaunas Airport to develop from the status as a low-cost airline hub to an airport capable of offering full services to any airline operator. And we do see this as a new step towards attracting more airlines to Kaunas in the near future, says Mr Gelzinis.
Until now the only airline based at Kaunas Airport, Ryanair performed its first flight in Lithuania at Kaunas Airport on September 22, 2005, and made Kaunas Airport its 40th base from May 2, 2010.
