May 31, 2018 (newstodate): With the first flight on May 27, 2018, Kazakhstan and Lithuania have become online with direct scheduled services.
Obtaining its TCO license in 2017, Kazakhstan's SCAT Airlines has launched flights between Vilnius, in Lithuania, and Astana, in Kazakhstan, with two weekly rotations served with Boeing 737 aircraft.
The route marks SCAT's entry into EU markets, but plans area already on the table for start of flights also from Astana to Milan, Vienna and Prague, and SCAT actually aims at starting up on a total of 14 routes to EU destinations over the coming few years.
SCAT Airlines was on the list of air carriers banned in the EU until December 8, 2016, and as the latest Kazakh carrier SCAT has also obtained the coveted TCO certification from EASA granting full rights to operate scheduled air services between Kazakhstan and destinations within EU.
In the fleet of IOSA-certified SCAT Airline are now 18 aircraft including one Boeing 767-300, four Boeing 757-200, and seven Boeing 737 aircraft of various types, and in November 2017 the carrier placed an order with Boeing for delivery of six Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with options for a further five aircraft of this type.
