May 22, 2018 (newstodate): Finnair is determined to boost the position in the Norwegian market of its hub at Helsinki Airport, in fierce competition with SAS' Scandinavian hubs.
At stake is the Scandinavian markets for Asian flights where Finnair is securing its leading role as to frequencies and number of destinations from Helsinki Airport.
Finnair's strategy is pinned on the code-share cooperation with Wideroe that has started operating for Finnair with its new Embraer E190-E2 on routes from Bergen and Tromsoe.
This cooperation has now been expanded by new code-shares on nine routes served by Wideroe including flights from Bodoe, Kristiansund and Kirkenes, as well as other, smaller airports in Norway.
With the expanded code-share cooperation, Finnair is also securing access to onward flights via Helsinki Airport by incoming passengers on its routes from China and Japan.
