May 24, 2018 (newstodate): Buta Airways - the low-cost subsidiary of Azerbaijan Airlines - is doing well after only less than a year in the skies.
According to the company, expectations are that it will reach break-even already before the end of this year.
Buta Airways took to the air on its first commercial flight on September 1, 2017, offering flights from Baku to Moscow, Kiev, Antalya, Kazan, Mineralnye Vody, Tbilisi and Tehran.
The next phase started from October 29, 2017 with flights from Baku to Istanbul and St Petersburg, and from Ganja to Moscow.
In its summer 2018 schedule Buta Airways operates flights to 12 destinations in Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Bulgaria and Georgia.
In the fleet are seven Embraer aircraft - six E190 and one E170, which will soon be replaced by E190.
The eighth E190 aircraft will join the airline's fleet by mid-2019.
