May 31, 2018 (newstodate): Another Russian carrier has its wings clipped: Saratov Airlines.
As of today, Russia's Ministry of Transportation has revoked the carrier's AOC after a renewed audit on May 26-27 revealed that the carrier had still not taken remedial action to correct a number of deficiencies especially in rostering cockpit crews that were found to fly without respecting regulations on a number of issues including working hours and rest periods, or even medical checks.
The latest accident by Saratov Airlines was the crash in February 2018 when an AN-148 aircraft went down near Moscow Domodedovo Airport causing the death of 71 passengers and crew members.
Aeroflot took over Saravia in October 2011 as one of six airlines transferred to its ownership by the state organization Rostekhnologii after the demise of AiRUnion.
But as the carrier did not fit into Aeroflot's plans for the future, the controlling stake of 51 percent of the shares was sold to a group of undisclosed private Russian investors.
