Apr 03, 2018 (newstodate): The Swedish/British carrier West Atlantic has eased its ATP freighter overcapacity issue by sale of two aircraft.
Two ATP freighter aircraft have been sold to EnComm Ltd., based at Nairobi, Kenya, under an agreement also including commitments for spares, engineering and training support to assist the assigned operator in setting up its operation.
As part of the transaction, West Atlantic also brokered two BAe ATP passenger aircraft, currently owned by one of the Groups collaboration partners. The aircraft will probably also be allocated to its Kenyan partnership.
-Large focus is on identifying new opportunities for the ATP aircraft that are parked. Focus is to maintain 10-15 aircraft in profitable production, while we aim to sell or lease out excess aircraft to operators outside of Europe. Some aircraft will also be parted out so that these parts can be used to reduce spare part cost for the operating fleet, said the company's CEO in the latest interim report.
By the end of 2017, West Atlantic had a total of 37 ATP freighters in the fleet, of which 19 were in service and 18 were parked.
Of the 30 aircraft, 30 were owned and 10 operated on dry-lease contracts.
