Apr 23, 2018 (newstodate): At a handover ceremony by Boeing at East Midlands airport on April 19, 2018, the Swedish/UK cargo carrier West Atlantic took delivery of its, and indeed the world's, first Boeing 737-800BCF freighter.
The aircraft is the first of four ordered by the carrier that will receive the remaining three aircraft in August and November 2018, and in January 2019, respectively.
All four aircraft will be operating for "an express logistic provider in its current EU-network", which translates into TNT at Liege for intra-European operations.
With an additional pallet position over the 737-400, the new aircraft will offer 23 tonnes of revenue generating capability with a 15 percent reduction in fuel burn and a 12 percent lower noise footprint, compared to the Boeing 737 Classic.
The four freighters will be leased from GECAS and converted at Boeing's modification facility in Shanghai.
With all four aircraft in the fleet, West Atlantic will be operating a total of 23 Boeing 737 freighter aircraft.
