Apr 16, 2018 (newstodate): According to Poland's Civil Aviation Office, Small Planet Airlines was the #1 carrier in the country's charter marked in 2017.
The position was secured by 1.22 mio passengers, corresponding to a market share at 29.97 percent in 2017.
Second was Enter Air with 1.12 mio passengers and 27.5 percent of the market, followed by #3 Travel Service that lifted 1.06 mio passengers achieving a market share at 26.15 percent.
Serving the Polish charter market since 2009 and starting out with two aircraft, Small Planet Airlines Poland is today firmly rooted in the Polish market with 10 aircraft on Polish AOC and offering flights out of a number of Polish airports for Polish tour operators, with seat-only sales as a complement.
But early in 2016, Small Planet Airlines held the view that there was little more to be achieved in Poland.
-We see the potentials in our Polish market almost exhausted. We may add one or two more aircraft there but there is hardly more demand to be met there, Simonas Bartkus, Small Planet Airlines CCO told newstodate on February 3, 2016.
This turned out to be an underestimation...
And coming up is the new player in the Polish aviation market, Ryanair Sun with the first commercial flight slated for April 26, 2018.
Starting out from the Summer 2018 schedule, Ryanair Sun will initially have a fleet of five Boeing 737-800 aircraft based at Warsaw Modlin Airport and operating flights on behalf of tour operators to leisure destinations from Warsaw, Katowice, Poznan and Wroclaw.
Ambitions are to grow the fleet on the charter carrier's own AOC to 15 aircraft in 2019 and to 25 in 2020.
