Apr 18, 2018 (newstodate): Hardly surprisingly, Russia's Volga-Dnepr Group has announced the abrogation of the contract for uplift of NATO shipments under the SALIS contract, according to French media reports.
The contract between NATO member countries in the Strategic Airlift Interim Solution, SALIS, and the Ruslan company - a JV between the Ukrainian Antonov Airlines and the Volga-Dnepr Group - was set up in February, 2006, providing for the stationing of two AN-124 aircraft at Leipzig Halle Airport, while another four AN-124 aircraft would be allocated upon request as needed by the NATO and EU members of SALIS.
The contract is thus to end by January 1, 2019, leaving the NATO partners with an air logistics problem with only Antonov Airlines to provide heavy uplift of military equipment.
