Apr 03, 2018 (newstodate): After nine months of operations, Turkish Cargo will move its Baltic freighter service from Latvia to Lithuania later this month.
Starting from April 19, 2018, Turkish Cargo is thus to operate two weekly Airbus A330-200F flights through Vilnius Airport, coming in from Prague and returning to Istanbul after the call at Vilnius.
Turkish Cargo launched its twice-weekly Baltic freighter service with the first flight into Latvia's Riga Airport on July 1, 2017, but the freighter service in the Baltic region was originally planned to be allocated to Vilnius, in Lithuania.
However, a runway reconstruction project closed Vilnius Airport for a period during summer 2017 - and the launch of the service was instead moved to Latvia in what is now seen as a temporary measure.
With the move, Turkish Cargo may also qualify to benefit from Lithuania's airline incentive scheme offering support in opening and consolidating new routes for a period up to three years.
To qualify, a new route must be served at least two times weekly, and the launch of services must be not later than May 31, 2018.
