Apr 26, 2018 (newstodate): The Polish carrier LOT has decided to add further long-haul capacity .
An order has thus been placed with the Irish lessor Avolon for three Boeing 787-9 aircraft dedicated to serving existing routes to N America and Asia as well as enabling the opening of new routes.
Two of the new aircraft will be delivered by May 2019, with the third to follow in October 2019.
On order by LOT are already three more Boeing 787-9 aircraft leased from US-based Aviation Capital Group, with the first already in the fleet.
LOT will launch flights from Warsaw to Singapore in May 2018, and plans are being considered for opening flights to an Indian destinations as well.
The route to Singapore will become LOT's fourth long-haul service after opening flights from Warsaw to Beijing from May 29, 2012, to Tokyo Narita from January 13, 2016, and to Seoul Incheon from October 16, 2016.
In the fleet of LOT are now eight Boeing 787-8 and one Boeing 787-9 aircraft, and six more Boeing 787-9 aircraft are in the order book.
The carrier took delivery of its first Boeing 787-8 aircraft on November 15, 2012, and the first and so far only Boeing 787-9 was added on March 23, 2018.
With the latest orders, LOT will thus be operating a fleet of 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft by 2020.
