Apr 20, 2018 (newstodate): The Chinese aircraft lease company BOC Aviation has taken over six Boeing 787-9 aircraft production slots on Norwegian's portfolio.
By this action, the Chinese company will take ownership and delivery of the aircraft and place them with Norwegian on a lease contract, in the process lifting the procurement costs off the carrier's sheets.
This leaves Norwegian with orders for 13 Boeing 787-9 aircraft instead of the 19 so far in Boeing's books.
Basically a sale-lease back transaction while considered a result from Norwegian's current financial troubles by observers in the industry.
