Apr 12, 2018 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier RAF-AVIA is still waiting for the delivery of a second ATR-72 freighter.
According to the latest schedule, the aircraft should have been delivered already in January 2018, but the process is still pending.
-There are some issues with the banking and other processes, so we are still waiting, says Jelena Rigere, RAF-Avia Commercial Director.
-In the meantime we are now to receive one ATR-42 aircraft that will be in the fleet by the end of May. This will be a passengers aircraft joining the two SAAB 340 aircraft also in passenger version, and serving the passenger aircraft ACMI market.
-While RAF-Avia has been focusing on the freighter ACMI market, the passenger market was actually part of our activities until 2006. This business segment has thus now been re-opened after we obtained rights under a new AOC on September 1, 2016.
-In the cargo market we are now operating two SAAB 340 and one ATR-72 freighter as as well as four AN-26 aircraft.
-The AN-26 aircraft were earlier poised for being gradually phased out from start of January 2018, but this has again been postponed till start of 2019. The aircraft is still performing well for us and has lots of potential, says Ms Rigere.
