Apr 26, 2018 (newstodate): Sukhoi is reaping benefits from its participation at the international air show Eurasia Airshow 2018 taking place from April 25 to 29 at Antalya Airport, Turkey.
Sukhoi has long been targeting the Iranian market for sale of its Superjet 100 aircraft - and has now succeeded in landing a contract for no less than 40 Superjet 100, with deliveries to start in 2020.
The two Iranian carriers Iran Air Tours and Aseman Airlines will each take 20 aircraft according to contracts signed at the airshow.
Crucial to the implementation of the contracts will be Sukhoi's ongoing efforts to replace US and other western components and systems with Russian products to secure the aircraft deliveries without hindrances from the current, and maybe even increasing, US sanctions.
At the same time, it is now reported that the delivery of the first of 80 new Boeing aircraft to Iran Air has been postponed.
Initially, the first aircraft, a Boeing 777, would be delivered this spring, but this has now been postponed till at least 2019 because of political issues.
In April 2017, Iran Air signed contracts with Boeing for a total of 80 aircraft including 50 Boeing 737Max, 15 Boeing 777-300ER and 15 Boeing 777-9 aircraft.
Deliveries of Airbus aircraft are also expected to be impacted by increased sanctions by the US government as they contain a high rate of US aviation products.
